17-year-old Boy Steals Nintendo DS in Effort to Impress Girlfriend

Poor little Anthony Etienne couldn’t impress his girlfriend because he was, well, poor. So he did the only thing that made sense at the time: stole a Nintendo DS from a little girl. Wait, did I say “made sense”? I meant “was totally nuts”.
His statement is hard to read due to the kid’s poor speech, which was transcribed in painful detail.
“I did not have no money to impress her, so if I thought that if I take this lil girl’s DS, I can make some money. I tapped her shoulder. I said, ‘Give it.’ She said, ‘No.’ I said, ‘It mine,’ (sic) and forst (sic) it from her. I felt bad as she chased me but it was done. I said to myself, ‘Never agen (sic).’ “
It’s great that he mentions his inner monologue and the moral problems that he faced. Saying “never again” doesn’t make up for anything, it just makes you look worse. It shows that you were fully aware that what you were doing was awful and yet you did it anyway. He says he felt bad as she chased him, but that “it was done.” No, it wasn’t! You could’ve stopped and handed it back to her, right then and there.
He now faces third-degree robbery, fourth-degree larceny and petit larceny charges.
