Michael Pachter: 3DS Games Will Cost More

Industry analyst Michael Pachter has said that the software and hardware prices of the Nintendo 3Ds will be higher than that of the DS.

“We view the 3DS as a revolutionary device, and expect its launch to spur hardware and software sales,” Pachter said today. “Due to the unique 3DS experience previewed by Nintendo at E3 this year, we believe Nintendo will be able to sell millions of units even at a price of upwards of $250.”

“From a software perspective, we believe Nintendo will be able to increase DS software prices, from a blended average of around $25 today to over $29 next year.”

Pachter is possibly the most respected analyst in the industry, so it’s worth listening to him. However, Nintendo could potentially stick to their established model for pricing games. In the UK at least, new DS games cost the same as new GBA games when the platform was first released. It makes sense to continue that pricing strategy since it’s worked so well ion the past.
