Lost Nintendo Games Volume 3. Disaster Day Of Crisis

Lost Nintendo Games is a series of articles about Nintendo games that have been lost to Nintendo fans.  This usually means that the game has been canceled or the game was just not released in a particular region for whatever reason.  Let us not forget about the Nintendo titles that many people never got to play.

Disaster Day of Crisis is a third person action adventure game for the Nintendo Wii.  This game was first shown at E3 2006 along with the Wii.  Disaster Day of Crisis wasn’t playable at the event, but the game was clearly shown on the Nintendo of America E3 website that year.  Ever since then I was excited about this title and now it looks as though I will never get to play it.

In Disaster Day of Crisis you play as ex-Marine Raymond Bruce.  As Raymond the player has to do whatever it takes to survive the disasters happening around him as well as save several other people in danger.  In some reviews I read I learned that game players even have to use the Wii Remote and Nunchuck to perform CPR in order to save innocent people.

Disaster Day of Crisis also features some third person shooter elements.  I’ve always felt the Wii was well suited for third person shooters, such as Sin & Punishment Star Successor, and wish more would be developed for the platform.

Disaster Day of Crisis is a strange case for lost Nintendo games.  The game was really only lost to the North American audience even though the game takes place in the USA and has been completely translated into English.  Localizing this game wouldn’t cost much at all.  So why did Nintendo of America choose not to release this game here?

President and COO of Nintendo of America Reggie Fils-Aime once said, in an IGN interview years ago, that he found the voice work in Disaster Day of Crisis to be, “Laughable”.  Mr. Fils-Aime also said that he didn’t feel the game was worth a $50 dollar price tag.  I find this statement funny since I can think of a number of lesser First Party Wii titles that should have been under $50 but were released in North America.  Games that come to mind are Big Brain Academy Wii Degree and Wario Ware: Smooth Moves.

Could this game still be released in North America?  Sure it could, but it probably won’t.  I wish Nintendo of America would give this game a chance, as it’s one that I have personally been waiting to play for a long time.  Disaster Day of Crisis is lost to us Nintendo fans in North America.

European gamer here. Disaster: Day of Crisis was actually pretty good. As for the comments on the voice acting, it wasn’t stellar, but it didn’t detract much for me. (Remember Oblivion, ffs?) I remember they said they’d do a NA release based on Europe sales… Didn’t sell well in Europe because they announced the release like a week in advance and gave it no advertising whatsoever.

wow, this looks pretty damn cool. Why in the hell don’t we get these games in the US

I imported it from Europe. Also importing Captain Rainbow & Fatal Frame 4 from Japan. :)

I so want to play this game.  The voice acting seems fine to me; it may be a little “laughable,” but in a good way, a sort of action-disaster movie way.  Heck, some people find some of the voice acting in Brawl laughable…

It just seems like a fun experience overall, and if it doesn’t seem like it would be worth $50, then don’t charge $50.  $40 is fine.  They charged more for Metroid: Other M, and that doesn’t seem to be pulling its weight…
