New Fallout New Vegas DLC Details Teased in “Dead Money”?

The first Fallout: New Vegas DLC has recently been released and contains possible clues toward what’s in store next for players. Inside of the Dead Money DLC, there are plenty of references to another courier and a location called The Big Empty. It seems to set up quite a bit, but there’s much more to go off of than just that.
*The following article contains plot spoilers – you have been warned*

As I said, there are many things that hint at upcoming New Vegas DLC. We’ve compiled these hints from our own digging as well as from our friends at G4 and TheVault.
First off – TheVault has found not one, but two new references to a character we previously knew had been cut from the game.
During Dead Money, the character Christine will tell you that she was rescued from Father Elijah in the Big Empty by a courier, “Who wore the flag of the old world on his back”. (Well get to him in a bit)
However, it is also stated in one of Dog‘s (The Nightkin not the bounty hunter) endings that:
- “The new voice did not think of the Courier again until the battle at the Divide reached his ears. The battle between the two couriers, beneath the torn skies and the Old World flag… each bearing a message for the other. And the mutant prayed the Courier that had saved him… had been saved in return.”
Both of the occurrences mentioned above are also part of a challenge called Things to Come , which may in itself confirm that these are hints at future New Vegas DLC. Things to come? More like “DLC to come.”
The courier who, “Wore the flag of the old world” is almost definitely Ulysses, a companion character that was cut from the final version of Fallout: New Vegas.
The collector’s edition of New Vegas came with a deck of cards. On one of these cards is Ulysses, he carries a flagpole and has this quote underneath his image:
“The day I set my flag down, it’ll be over my body or over a nation I believe in.”

Owners of the game for PC have been digging around in files and have found a new weapon called the Eagle Flag Pole, which may indeed be the flagpole on Ulysses’ card. (Signature weapon?)
On top of this information, New Vegas lead designer Chris Avellone was quoted as thus in a recent interview:
“There’s a character on one of the trading cards, Ulysses, who was supposed to be a companion. Oddly enough, tearing him out of the game was almost as hard as putting him in because companion scripts touch almost everything (and he also was a complicated character in terms of some of the hooks into the storyline). Maybe he’ll come back at some point. I miss him.”
Ulysses was also one of the couriers who turned down your infamous Platinum Chip delivery job in Primm.
Another interesting note: Dead Money itself was first hinted at via in-game graffiti that was also found in the New Vegas PC files. Now, new graffiti files have been found that hint at new locations and possible plot lines.
According to TheVault – The texture files for said graffiti can be found in a folder called “nvdlcgraffiti”, and all the textures share the file name “nvgraffitisierra”. This folder also contains a number of other textures, which share the filename “nvgraffitihonesthearts”. They seem to think this hints at the new DLC being called Honest Hearts – but I’m not so sure.
The graffiti (pictured below) has a few interesting quotes:
- “Where’s New Canaan, anyway?”
- “The Burned Man Walks!”
- “Joshua Graham Lives!”
