Nintendo has just sent out a press release informing the world of two new sales milestones set by Nintendo hardware in the United States in 2010.  According to Nintendo the complete line of Nintendo DS systems, which first hit shelves in 2004, has sold over 47 million units in the U.S. through the end of 2010.  This would make the Nintendo DS the nation’s best selling video game system ever!

The Nintendo DS wasn’t the only piece of Nintendo hardware to set sales records by the end of 2010.  The Nintendo Wii managed to to sell over 7 million units for the third year in a row.  No other home console in the history of gaming has been able to accomplish this feat!  Nintendo also adds that the Nintendo Wii has sold over 34 million units in the United States since it launched in 2006.

Reggie Fils-Aime, President and COO of Nintendo of America, had the following to say in response to these sales records:

“When we look back at 2010, we see consumers time and again turning to the value and enjoyment of our products.  When we look ahead to 2011, we see new portable technology and more great Wii games that need to be seen to be believed.”
