Capcom Shutting Down YouTube Accounts Showing Oni and Evil Ryu

Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition only released on December 16th 2010 in North America and Japan, but there appears to already be post-launch content available – albeit unofficially and illegitimately.

Earlier in the week players somehow gained access to two new characters that Capcom had planned to introduce into the game either prior to or post the launch of Marvel v Capcom 3. Arcades the world over have now unlocked these characters and posted gameplay videos to their YouTube channels and gameplay notes to their websites. Capcom is taking a heavy stance however, promptly suspending YouTube accounts that showcase gameplay of the two new characters.

We will be sure to keep you updated if any other YouTube accounts fall sour to the sharp edged axe of Capcom’s copyright warriors. However something that perplexes me is how Capcom can claim copyright of something that technically wasn’t meant to exist?

One such account; PikachuAkuma, was filled with Street Fighter IV gameplay and promptly shut down with Capcom issuing copyright notices after he uploaded gameplay of Oni and Evil Ryu. Click here for an image of the suspension notice. We also have two images of Oni and Evil Ryu for you to check out below.

“However something that perplexes me is how Capcom can claim copyright of something that technically wasn’t meant to exist?”

because the video shows their property and Capcom have every right to do something about it.

also anybody feel that Oni Akuma is just a rip off version of Proxicide’s MK vs SF 3′s Akuma lvl3?

Concerning about Evil Ryu and Oni (Akuma or Gouken), I been hearing that there was a password that unlocks them. If this is true, then they’re official. Now I respect Capcom doing their job, but it’s too late to cover it back up. The evidence is already out and they can’t do anything about it.
