Killzone 3 Open Beta – Over 65 Million Killed

Is Killzone 3 going to be a success? That’s not even a question, especially after Sony released statistics reflecting the popularity of it’s Open Beta’s first week.
Let’s see what they are:
- 62 million kills
- 10% of kills were brutal melee kills (6.5 million)
- Over 400,000 games played
- Over 500,000 players on the leader boards
- 2 players have exceeded 1 million XP
Guerrilla Games is a responsible developer and have listed all the problems players have encountered and what they planned to do about them.
“We are happy that we are encountering these issues now, during a Beta, instead of after launch. This will help us get ready for the huge amount of people that are expected to go online at launch.”
High level issues discovered:
- Connection problems
- High load caused the database to fall over
- Score posting
- Flickering screens
- Ribbon stats not updating
- Vulgarity filter
Solutions underway:
- Guerrilla has already released a patch, which is live at the time of writing.
- Guerrilla has made improvements for the server connection issues. The server was brought down and put back up for that on Monday, 7 February 2011.
- The problems with the filter should be fixed now.
- Guerrilla will continue to update the servers and patch the Beta if needed and are watching your feedback closely on Killzone.com
Sounds like Guerrilla is on the correct and responsible path. Perhaps other developers (*Treyarch*) can learn a thing or two.
