Killzone 3 Open Beta – Over 65 Million Killed

Is Killzone 3 going to be a success?  That’s not even a question, especially after Sony released statistics reflecting the popularity of it’s Open Beta’s first week.

Let’s see what they are:

  • 62 million kills
  • 10% of kills were brutal melee kills (6.5 million)
  • Over 400,000 games played
  • Over 500,000 players on the leader boards
  • 2 players have exceeded 1 million XP

Guerrilla Games is a responsible developer and have listed all the problems players have encountered and what they planned to do about them.

“We are happy that we are encountering these issues now, during a Beta, instead of after launch. This will help us get ready for the huge amount of people that are expected to go online at launch.”

High level issues discovered:

  • Connection problems
  • High load caused the database to fall over
  • Score posting
  • Flickering screens
  • Ribbon stats not updating
  • Vulgarity filter

Solutions underway:

  • Guerrilla has already released a patch, which is live at the time of writing.
  • Guerrilla has made improvements for the server connection issues. The server was brought down and put back up for that on Monday, 7 February 2011.
  • The problems with the filter should be fixed now.
  • Guerrilla will continue to update the servers and patch the Beta if needed and are watching your feedback closely on Killzone.com

Sounds like Guerrilla is on the correct and responsible path. Perhaps other developers (*Treyarch*) can learn a thing or two.

I heard this game is amazing on the Move..I have to get the sharp shooter gun as soon as I get the Move!

I’ve been playing it (sometimes) with a shooter peripheral. While it’s not the sharpshooter, the move definitely helps with aiming.

The only draw back is it’s hard to quickly turn around and sometimes move around when you are in a tough situation.

    MY EYES!!

hmm so basically you mean it’s almost too accurate of an aim?

You need more than the Navigation control to move, as you must also use your pointer.

Remember, the navigation controller only controls your left stick. It’s something I’m sure one can get used to and adapt.

I’ve played the Beta for a few hours during the last week, one hour with a 3rd party shooting peripheral.

Somehow, I knew that there would be a reference to Treyarch in here somewhere.

I also think that when Killzone 3 comes out, Treyarch and Activision are going to stand back in shock knowing that they could have had something this awesome on the PS3 but they didn’t. Sorry, Xbox 360. It’s a PS3 exclusive. THANK GOODNESS! :)
