Jill Valentine Already on the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Disc

It’s true. A clever PS3 hacker (seems to be a popular hobby these days) by the name of Krisan Thyme has done what I consider to be nothing less than magic to bring Jill Valentine out of her confines of some hidden sector on the disc.

This was a relatively simple hack. I decrypted the PS3 version’s executable file, changed some variables around, and replaced Viewtiful Joe with Jill. I then re-encrypted the executable and made a quick modification to the game-data MvC3 installs onto the PS3. (Namely, changed a parameter so that the game would treat the modified executable as though it were a patch.) After a bit more tweaking and poking at the game files, I successfully loaded her into the character select screen. (And yes, she’s completely playable, albeit at the expense of losing Viewtiful Joe

Now before you get pissed at Capcom at holding back, be aware that the character is not finished. Krisan goes on to note in his observations that Jill is missing most of her voice acting and has very severe balancing issues with her hyper combos. Don’t be too disgruntled that you will have to buy Jill if you want the fully polished experience.
