Preview: One Single Life for iPhone

Some games are super frustrating: you get to almost the end of the level and die, and have to start all over again from the beginning. We’ve all played those games, and it’s nice to know that some developers out there try to avoid this annoyance. The usual way to do so is to be more forgiving with save points and extra lives. The developers of One Single Life for the iPhone are taking a different approach: you don’t get a second chance at all, ever.

That’s right; if you fail in this game, you’re done. You would have to create a new iTunes account and buy the game again if you want another shot at it. The gameplay is fairly straightforward run and jump with a black and white theme and some cool slow motion effects. The tension of knowing that each level might be your last offers a thrill that’s rarely felt in a video game, however. At the beginning of each level, it shows you how many players have died on that level and what your chances are for failure.

The devs aren’t totally cruel and heartless; they do allow you to practice each level as many times as you want before attempting it for real. But as soon as you decide to go for it, that’s it–you only get one shot. Definitely an intriguing concept for an iOS game. Check out the website here and the video below.
