The Kinect has been heavily marketed as a family friendly device.  All it takes one look at the ridiculous commercials of whole families and office workers sitting around their Xbox playing Joy Ride to know that Microsoft is heavily leaning on that attitude to sustain the Kinect.

That’s why I’m a little taken aback that there will, in fact, be an “M” rated title that will hit the Kinect hardware. The title entitled Rise of Nightmare had its rating accompanied by a rather disturbing content descriptor that really details some of the game’s more extreme scenes. Phrases like “a man screams loudly as spikes impale his body; a restrained character’s hand is chopped off before he is killed,” are littered throughout the content description.

The game itself is a first-person title where a United States tourist has to save his wife from a rather deranged scientist. Only time will tell if a game can maintain a dark theme whilst you flail about in front of Skynet’s cameras. Get your horror on this summer.
