Microsoft : Xbox Live Service to be Built Into PCs / Windows 8

Microsoft’s Mike Delman, VP of global marketing, in a conversation with The Seattle Times revealed the company’s plans to have Xbox Live built into PCs through Windows 8 integration.

“I think that’s going to be a good play for us,” Delman said. “If we have that and the PCs to leverage, that will be a big Live base. It’s our job to make [it to where you can] ‘buy a movie in one place and play it everywhere, buy a game in one place and play it everywhere.’ Making things portable will be a big focus of ours.”

Microsoft has had recent success with Xbox Live integration in mobile phones and are looking to expand this success to PCs and other devices.

“Live has been successful on the Windows Phone. Live will be built into the PC. It will be the service where you get your entertainment. We were talking about it — you will not just see consoles and handhelds at this show next year, this show’s going to morph into other devices.”

“Xbox Live will the pervasive media service across devices.”

When asked how the service and content of Xbox Live will be part of Windows 8, Delman explained Microsft’s plans in greater detail.

There will be a lot of similarities in design and service philosophy. Whether it’s us or Apple or anybody else, people want to be able to navigate through multiple devices in a certain ecosystem very seamlessly so we’re committed to that.

Good old Microsoft, always quick to compete with longtime rival Apple. So what do you think? It seems this can be nothing but good news to gamers.

Ugh… no thanks. Your software is garbage enough as it is Microsoft. Please stop adding more garbage.

What’s the difference between this and Games for Windows – LIVE?

My guess is that it will be Games for Windows LIVE built into Windows. We will probably be able to voice chat and check messages while browsing the internet. =)

Very bad idea. The last thing pc-gamers need, is an online service
that’s designed for console. Especially when a payed Gold subscription
    is needed…

So, more quality software from Microsoft. Thank you Microsoft for bring us this and not giving us a choice in what we install on our own computer. I can hardly wait. Really. Can’t you see me jumping for pure unadulterated joy. Verily, I say unto you; this is truly a great time to be alive.

There’s nothing to say this will have a monthly subscription fee like Xbox does (GFWL is free after all), If it did have a sub, I’m hoping my xbox gold subscription covers them both. If not, I’ll pay it anyway. I’m a huge fan of xbox live and I think it’s well worth the money. To have that same experience on PC, without having to have teamspeak and every other separate app.. to have all my social-gaming tools in the one place, well I think it’s a great idea and a small stepping stone towards the future of interactive entertainment. One day, when everything we do is integrated and seamless, we’ll read about qauint stuff like this in history books (if we aren’t invaded by China before then).

Awesome! If this means that I can voice chat (in a party, not private chat) and browse my computer this will be an amazing feature. =)
