Why Do I Always Get Excited For Every New Heroes of Might and Magic Game?

I may have spent more time in my life playing HoMM II and III than any other games in history (not including WoW of course) and every game in the series I have played since those two has let me down for one reason or another.

I found Heroes IV to bee too “hero” focused and Heroes V certainly wasn’t bad, but it just didn’t do it for me in the way Heroes 2 and 3 did.  The camera was wonky and the game didn’t really get good ’til the expansions, but by then it was too late for this gamer.

Maybe I’m just old school, maybe I’m jaded?  However, Heroes VI is on the horizon, and guess who’s excited once again? That’s right – this guy.

See?! It looks awesome. It looks like Heroes III for the next generation! But that’s what I said about Heroes IV and V… When will I learn? Probably never.  Anyway, I don’t have any beta gameplay to show you yet, but the Cynical Brit does. Behold his cynicism and opinions which mirror many of my own thoughts about the series:

Hnghhhhhh, the Broken Alliance map from heroes II is in there!!  There’s even Heroes II and III music!!  The combat looks lovely as well.  The lacking town menus are certainly disappointing, but this is a beta and there is time to change that after all…

Anyway, I’ll be jumping into the beta shortly and you can too by pre-ordering the game on steam. Hopefully I won’t be let down and find myself curled up in a ball playing Heroes III again.

Only time will tell…
