Playstation Network “PLAY” Announced
“A new program showcasing four of the season’s hottest action titles.” That’s how the official description goes for the just-announced PLAY from SCEA, which is essentially the Playstation Network’s version of XBLA’s Summer of Arcade. “ Four of the season’s hottest action titles,” translates into Street Fighter III Third Strike Online Edition (August 23), The Baconing (August 30), BloodRayne: Betrayal (September 6) and Renegade Ops (September 13). For those who purchase all four of the aforementioned titles, PAYDAY: The Heist will be available as a free title. For everyone else, this bonus game will be available for pre-order starting on September 20 for $19.99. Yeah, “pre-order.”
This is basically where PLAY differentiates itself from Summer of Arcade. Each pre-order you make will score you a free theme for your Playstation 3, while each actual purchase will get you an unknown “gift.” Hey, we all love surprises (most of the time) so that’s a generous incentive on Sony’s part. Oh, and Sony didn’t forget about all you Playstation Plus subscribers; those subbed to the paid service will get 20% off each game’s original asking price.
