Space Marine Has Co-Op, But You May Have to Pay For It

Cooperative play in gaming has always been something to consider when buying a game. After all, would you rather shoot dudes with your buddy in Halo, or would you rather wander the galaxy alone in Mass Effect 2? Say what you will about a general online community, but co-op is a great feature. Which is why we’re happy to announce that the upcoming Warhammer 40K: Space Marine will have co-op. That’s the good news.

The bad news is that, if you buy it used, you’re gonna end up having to fork over a bit more to play co-op. A promotion from Gamestop last week confirmed the addition of co-op in the game. The problem is that the co-op is marked as “free game mode (Day 30 DLC).” So far, this appears to be a Gamestop thing, as no other retailer has it as a pre-order bonus.

However, this past weekend, a community manager spoke on the matter of it via a forum post, which has since been deleted.  According to him, the co-op mode has been delayed 30 days post-launch, but it’s free to those who bought the game brand new. Of course, if it was true, then the post wouldn’t have been deleted, so the whole handling of the co-op is still up in the air and hitting the moon. When Joystiq contacted THQ about it, the publisher gave this response:

”Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine will have co-op. We are looking forward to announcing more details later this month!”

Looks like we’ll have to keep our eyes peeled for the whole deal on co-op. Stay tuned to RipTen as more information is revealed about the game.  You can buy Warhammer 40k: Space Marine for the PS3, 360, and PC on September 6.
