Deep Silver Says They “Utterly Failed” At Bringing Risen 1 to Consoles

Risen was a pretty good PC RPG.  It wasn’t great, but it certainly didn’t suck.  However, when German developer Piranha Bytes went ahead and tried to port it to the Xbox 360… the result was rather awful.

The average MetaCritic score for Risen on PC was a respectable 77, but the average on Xbox 360 was… 60.

The game suffered from all sorts of graphical issues, gameplay glitches and other problems as a result of it being nothing more than a “console port”

Risen publisher Deep Silver‘s brand manager Daniel Oberlerchner is well aware of this and admitted such the other day during a conference call saying that they, “utterly failed” at bringing Risen to consoles.

Luckily, Piranha Bytes and Deep Silver are determined not to have this happen again and are developing Risen 2: Dark Waters for all three platforms separately.

Hopefully now Risen 2 will not only be a fine PC RPG, but a pretty damn good console one as well.  It’s scheduled to be released in the first half of 2012.

I couldn’t get into the first one… it had incredibly snooze worthy combat and I just didnt’ care to continue.

Well, it’s nice to see for once a shoddy port from PC to console as opposed to the other way around.
