Homefront 2 Being Developed by Crytek
Homefront, which was released earlier this year, wasn’t exactly the big hit of the spring season. It sold pretty well, but it received mixed reviews and after the closing of its development studio, many wondered who would pick up the pieces and continue the franchise… until now.
THQ has announced that none other than Crytek will develop Homefront 2. For what it’s worth, it does seem like a nice fit. Crysis 2 was a game about an American city under siege, and the original Crysis had North Koreans as antagonists.
“Selecting Crytek to take Homefront forward underscores our strategy of working with the industry’s best talent,”
Said Danny Bilson of THQ,
“Homefront’s unique setting and storyline captivated gamers the world over. With Crytek’s industry leading technology and legendary experience in the FPS genre, we’re supremely confident that the next Homefront will deliver that AAA-quality experience that players demand.”
Crytek boss Cervat Yerli seems to think so as well:
“We see Homefront as a really strong universe that has a lot of potential and that has been expertly created and marketed by THQ, We believe that bringing our level of quality, creativity and production values to the next Homefront title, creates an opportunity for both THQ and Crytek to deliver a truly blockbuster game. It’s really important to us that THQ has the faith in giving us a lot of creative freedom over one of its most important properties to allow us to bring the Homefront world to life in a new and innovative way.”
Very few details have been revealed at this time. The only thing we can really confirm is that it’s being developed by Crytek so it’s a safe bet the game will be frickin’ gorgeous. Of course, I don’t really get why THQ chose today of all days to reveal this bit of news. There’s something big happening right now.
