About a year ago, there was this lovely little 2D comic book side scrolling brawler called Shank for the XBLA, PSN and PC. It was a quirky little game that let you beat the living shit out of people. Why? Because you’re Shank, that’s why! A lot of people liked it, and the demand for a sequel has been soft, but vocal. Well, you Shank fans can stop clamoring: Shank 2 has been announced:
Once again, Shank 2 puts you in the soon to be bloody shoes of Shank, a former hitman with an itchy trigger finger. This time, expect a co-op survival mode to allow friends to connect by traveling through the beautiful comic book envirionments and turning people into bloody pulps. Klei Entertainment‘s Jaime Cheng described their approach to the sequel:
“Creatively, Shank still has a lot to give. We took the feedback from the community and ran with it, putting our own flavor on every change. For Shank 2, we literally took apart the game and put it back together to push the envelope in combat mechanics, visuals, and 2D animation in games.”
Here’s a list of features:
- Survival Mode: Team up with a friend online and locally to take down hordes of goons in this all-new and incredibly fun arcade-style multiplayer brawl.
- Multi-weapon Combat System: With a brand new redesigned weapon system, take on smarter and greater variety of goons and bigger, badder bosses with new weapon combos and new counter moves that let you use enemies’ weapons against them!
- Richer Environments: Look for opportunities to bring down ceilings, explode barrels, hurl crates, and more, and explore around to find new in-game unlockables!
- Stunning Visuals: Shank 2 draws you into the action with a stunning visual style that sets a new benchmark in 2D brawlers.
As a huge fan of downloadable games, sidescrollers, and beating the hell out of people, I’m pretty excited for Shank 2.
