GOG.com Joins in on SOPA Protests

Digital distribution and retro PC game heaven GOG.com have joined many other gaming outlets in the opposition of SOPA.

It now appears that despite the Stop Online Piracy Act being an American bill, even the Polish company Good Old Games.com feels the need to protest it. It joins many gaming companies doing the same, amongst support from most major Internet outlets.

The company said:

the more we see that it looks like the US Congress may pass SOPA or PIPA, the more we feel that we need to speak out. It’s impossible to say what impact that legislation could have on a global company like GOG.com, but we have a platform that can reach out to many gamers who will be effected by this, so we need to let you know about what SOPA and PIPA are and why, if you’re American, you should be worried about them.

So that’s three cheers to GOG.com, then. I’d also like to point out that this bill is probably more significant than you might think. Being a totally US-based bill, those of us in other countries have no say in what goes on- but we will feel the pain if it goes ahead. This bill, and the likelihood of more to come, present a future which gets more like Futurama by the second. Not because there will be beer-drinking robots, but one where the President of the US is also President of the world.
