THQ Financial Trouble Forcing Developer to Cancel 2014 Lineup?

THQ has had a rough year, but just how rough may remain to be seen.

The Udraw was a dud to say the least, and Saints Row 3, despite garnering critical success, underperformed in terms of sale projections. Now, according to IGDA Mobile Special Interests Group and a tweet by Tiswaz Entertainment Head, Kevin Dent, the company is in the danger zone. The rumor is that due to a lack of cash on hand, THQ has canceled their 2014 line up completely, returned intellectual property to Disney despite their advance payment, and is possibly even trying to sell themselves off to an Asian firm.

We are still without official word from THQ, so take this for what it is at this point — an internet rumor. Fans concerned about the state of the 2012 line up should be able to rest easy as it would seem the 2012 line up is safe. Meaning, Darksiders II and the Metro sequel on the shelves of your local GameStop as planned. The project being headed up by Assassin’s Creed creator, Patrice Desilet, who recently defected from Ubisoft to THQ, may unfortunately end up falling on it’s own sword.

RipTen’s been in contact with THQ to confirm or dispel these rumors. Stay tuned to get the latest.

No sympathy for the company, just the employees who may suffer for it. THQ has always been a douchey company, and the way they went from content-heavy SR2 to a stripped-down, half-assed SR3 (to nickel and dime people on DLC) just galvanizes my hate. Good riddance.
