Battlefield 3 + Risk = The Best Community Event Ever!

One of the great things about working as a video game journalist is stumbling on to things I would not have found otherwise. You see, I’m terrible at Battlefield 3 in general and I don’t play it near as much as I would like. This is mainly due to the fact that I don’t enjoy entering a game to get my face shot off over and over. I’ve always wanted that game that forces real teamwork and it seems that Global Conflict (a community based play style) has that going on.
Global Conflict is three parts Battlefield 3 and one part Risk. The idea behind this community is to create a game similar to Risk that uses players as the dice roles. Each Saturday, Global Conflict starts 32 v 32 player battles on their dedicated servers. Each map counts as a piece of land on a Risk style map. These conflicts are called “battledays” and last for 6 hours, but you are able to enter and leave at any time. The style of play is not for everyone though. You need to be willing to play as part of the team, listening to commanders, squad leaders and squad mates. More importance is placed on calling out targets and defending areas than the Rambo-style run and gun that is often found on random servers.
For those of you in the same boat as me, this may be the perfect way to enjoy some Battlefield 3. Skill level takes a back seat to team play. At the end of the battleday, commanders and lieutenants will award medals and honors to players. Over time you can climb the ranks to command your own troops, or stay as a grunt on the front lines. The battledays take place from 10 a.m. PST to 4 p.m. PST every Saturday. Currently, they only run this on the PC side of things. With 10 years of experience running this community based event (starting with BF1942), you can be confident in a solid experience. The fact that they never ask for any sort of financial support doesn’t hurt either.
