Zynga: 54 Million Players a Day, Still Lost 400 Million Dollars Last Year

Zynga, best known for the Facebook game Farmville, has revealed that despite a huge playerbase, it lost a lot of money last year.
Looking at the company’s 2011 financial report shows that the company lost $404,316,000 last year, despite the fact that it increased its daily active users (DAUs) by 13% in the final quarter to 54 million.
Thanks to that the total revenue for the year was $1.14 billion.
So why the $400 million loss? Here’s the reason given:
Stock-based compensation expense for restricted stock units issued to employees.
It also probably won’t help them that they could soon be paying out for patent infringement.
