The PS Vita is Doomed (and Other Overreactions)

The PlayStation Vita has not even seen a full release world wide yet and already a Japanese newspaper is reporting that developers are canceling projects to move over to the 3DS.  While the sales in Japan have fallen drastically on the new system, Sony’s VP of Worldwide Studios, Scott Rohde, does not agree.  He recently spoke with Gamasutra and said that “extremist quotes like that” are somewhat common for newer products.

While the PS Vita may not be pulling in the numbers that Sony hoped yet, it is hard to imagine that developers world wide are jumping ship before the system has a chance to stabilize, or even official release anywhere else.  While the 3DS has seen significant sales numbers over the past few months, not too long ago this exact sentiment was common for Nintendo’s handheld.

    Yes but Nintendo had to DO something to change their fortunes.  Sony have decided to bring out a console in that environment that costs a lot more, then charge massive premium for memory and then over charge for games.  I paid $44AUD for F1 2011 last year but it will cost me $68AUD on  Vita. 

    Sony want people to feel proud playing a PS Vita in public.  The reality is that being seen playing a PS Vita in public will mark you out as a Fanboy who happy got totally ripped off by Sony.

    Yeah – the Vita will do much better once it drops in price – similar to what Nintendo did.  Or, it may be just what gamers are wanting and will do fine at the prices that are currently set.  Time will tell.

    I agree 100 percent, why are they moving to 3ds so fast or thinking about it.. Give ps vita a chance man, I just bought my vita and thats the last thing i need to hear is developers not supporting the system. I dont understand why the vita isnt reaching there mark, I think the vita is amazing, wtf people. If sony canceling projects to move over to the 3DS I will be so mad, I spend all that money to get this thing and there gunna pull that shit, your an ass sony

    WHY the hell are games exclsive to this f)cking consoles anyway? the 3DS and DSIXL dont even have nintendo cartridges, it seems the more efficent an console  gets the worse it is at playing more games you like, and is especially annoying if your old DS gets broken becuase THERE ARE NO FRICKIN SHOPS THAT CAN POSSIBLY REPAIR THEM LABELED “ds reapair store” IN SOMETHING LIKE A MALL, they only give you ways to prevent the breaking that actually seem to make it worse from the impact and momentum.
