3DS Shatters Japanese Record – Fastest System to Hit 5 Million Sales

Nintendo today proudly announced that their portable 3DS system has topped 5 million sales in 52 weeks becoming the fastest system to hit that mark in Japan.

Previous systems that have held the record include the DS at 56 weeks and the Game Boy Advance at 58 weeks (coincidentally all Nintendo systems).  The 5 million mark reflects actual sales in the hands of consumers, not consoles moved as many in the industry often report.
