Reign of Thunder: Yet Another Free-to-Play Mech Game
If you had asked me a few years ago what I would love to see more of, I would’ve immediately responded with, “Mech games.” I remember one of the first games I played as a five-year-old on my Windows 95 box that got me into PC gaming was MechWarrior 2: 31st Century Combat. Blasting mechs apart with my Direwolf was love that blossomed and made its way into MechWarrior 2: Mercenaries. But past Mercenaries, I couldn’t find any mech game that ever replicated that awe-inspiring feeling of being one with tonnage of titanium killing machine.
I suppose a lot of developers have felt the same way, and we’ve had a slew of mech game announcements in the past year with MechWarrior Online and MechWarrior: Tactics. Now, we’ve got yet another mech game on the market. Day 1 Studios, the lovely follks behind the Mechassault games, just announced their intentions to develop Reign of Thunder, apparently another mech game… and it’s free-to-play.
I’m trying to hold back from squeeing with excitement. I’m counting on these upcoming mech games to bring back the joy that I had in my childhood playing MechWarrior. Hopefully, they won’t let me down.
Here’s the announcement trailer that Day 1 just put up. Mech fans, try not to wet your pants:
