God of War Devs Helping to Complete The Last Guardian

If there’s one game PlayStation 3 players are expecting more than others, it’s probably Team ICO’s The Last Guardian – and who can blame them? Team ICO has been responsible for PS2 classics ICO and the universally-revered Shadow of the Colossus.

So, where’s the game and what’s the progress so far? The bad news is the game still doesn’t seem to have a concrete release date, and it looks like that’s not going to be changing anytime soon.

President of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida, revealed a few details regarding the game – but most of them aren’t news that fans want to hear.

Speaking to Wired, Yoshida claims that former Team ICO boss Fumito Ueda is still an integral part of the game’s development process, “But the progress is slow and sometimes the team has to go back and review things.”

In what could be considered good news, it looks like other Sony studios are chipping in to get the game done. Yoshida revealed that Sony Santa Monica—the studio behind the God of War games—are now helping out; though, it’s not just them.

Well, you know, it’s not just Santa Monica. We have great tech people in Worldwide Studios. We have a central tech group in the U.S. and the U.K. so we are giving them whatever help they need. Technically, we have the best engineers in the U.S. and Europe, so these teams are helping them, giving advice.

Let’s just hope that with other Sony teams working on it that the game will see the light of day soon. Although some people are speculating whether Sony should just hold off the game’s release and make it a PS4 launch game.

Do you think The Last Guardian will live up to its lofty game legacy? What say you if Sony delays the game indefinitely and just releases it for its next-gen console?
