Is Nintendo Helping Third Party Studios to Revive Old Franchises for the 3DS?

Rumor has it that in an attempt to help build a stronger software library for the 3DS, Nintendo is helping third studios to revive old video game franchises. This news come from Nikkei Japanese media site. One example is that Nintendo is helping to revive the Seaman franchise along with the games creator, Yoot Saito.
Please keep in mind that none of this is confirmed, but it’s interesting none the less.
UPDATE:
Nintendo has stated the following via their Twitter account in regards to the information presented in this story.
“Some incorrect information was published on Monday, as is happening quite often a source is mixing information with no context, and supposition/assumptions. It’s surprising that these gossip-magazine style tactics are being used”.
Still this information doesn’t make it clear if the entire story is incorrect or if only pieces of it are. RipTen will have more as it becomes available.
