‘Darksiders II’ Wants You to Read, Hear and Touch Death’s World

Last week, we brought you news of both the Darksiders II release date and pre-order bonuses (enough with the retailer exclusives already, please). Today, we’re sharing some very cool news for fans of THQ and Vigil Games’ apocalyptic adventure.

We’ve heard mutterings of a tie-in novel hitting bookstores alongside the follow-up to War’s ride through the desiccated husk of the Earth. Now we know that Darksiders: Abomination Vault is set some time before the events of the first game as War and Death work to stop a group of renegades from finding a trove of powerful weapons. With these tools of destruction, the balance between Heaven and Hell could be upset… good to know that crisis was ultimately averted. The book, penned by Ari Marmell (The Conqueror’s Shadow, The Warlord’s Legacy), will detail the relationship between the two brothers, providing insight into the ongoing tale of the Horsemen. Today, THQ shared with us the cover, which features War atop his faithful steed Ruin, with the visage of Death looming over.

According to Amazon, the novel is due on May 15, 2012.

Additionally, THQ and Astro Gaming are teaming up for some sweet licensed audio gear. You can get custom speaker tags made, of course, but there are some officially licensed products coming soon (that we’ll be sure to share with you).

Finally, THQ and Vigil Games are putting one of the sinister characters from the original Darksiders, Samael, in the capable hands of SOTA Toys. You’ll be able to pick up your very own heart-eating demon when they are available on April 15, 2012.

It seems like THQ is going all out to make Darksiders a flagship series. With the success of the first game in the series and the major improvements and refinements already revealed for the sequel, adventure fans should be thrilled. You can pick up Darksiders (or one of our other Deals of the Week) now for far less than the game is worth. Then, you can sit and bite your fingernails in anticipation of the June 26th release of Darksiders II on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.
