Amidst rampant rumors and speculation regarding the new direction in the eagerly-awaited third installment of the popular Assassin’s Creed series, Ubisoft revealed concrete details on March 1, 2012 in the form of the official box art, confirmation that the game will be set in the period of the American Revolution and a launch trailer. Assassin’s Creed III has also been confirmed for an October 30, 2012 release date. Customers pre-ordering the game from Gamestop, Best Buy and Amazon.com are also being given a Limited Edition collector’s case featuring early arwork from the game.

Today, Ubisoft has unveiled new screenshots, concept art and a new trailer featuring the protagonist of Assassins’ Creed III, Connor, who continues fighting in the war between the Assassins and the Templars in Colonial America. The new trailer is a 40 second clip that showcases the character design of Connor, as well as the weapons that he will have at his disposal. The staple weapon of the Assassin’s Creed series, the Hidden Blade, makes it’s return alongside new period-specific weapons such as the dual pistols, the bow and arrow and the Tomahawk are showcased as well.

The new screenshots for Assassin’s Creed III also give fans a glimpse into the creative direction of the new game, as well as a taste of some of the new settings and terrain, ranging from snowy mountains and lush forests, to the Revolutationary battle camps and the colonial city of Boston. Additionally, Ubisoft has finalized the box art for the PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game. The artwork depicts both the colonial time period and setting, emphasizing that this will be a new experience for longtime fans of the series.
