Independent game developer Almost Human has announced that pre-orders for Legend of Grimrock, a first-person role-playing adventure game that combines classic dungeon-crawling elements with modern combat and gameplay mechanics, have officially begun.

Legend of Grimrock is being promoted by Almost Human as “a dungeon crawling role playing game with an oldschool heart but a modern execution”, drawing inspiration from classic PC role playing adventures such as Dungeon Master, Eye of the Beholder and Ultima Underworld. The game follows a group of four prisoners who must conquer the various monsters, dungeons and traps in order to escape Mount Grimrock and almost certain death. Legend of Grimrock is played in a first-person view and it emphasizes grid-based movement and real-time strategic combat, with elements of puzzle-solving and trap avoidance woven in. A special pre-order trailer released by Almost Human details some of the gameplay highlights of Legend of Grimrock

Those who pre-order Legend of Grimrock will receive a 20% discount on the price, as well as some extra goodies from the development team. These incentives include a full instruction manual, wallpapers, music themes, special grid paper for creating custom maps, art sheets and a team photo from Almost Human.

Legend of Grimrock will be released on April 11, 2012 exclusively for Windows PC and will be priced at $14.99. Those wishing to take advantage of the pre-order bonuses will pay a discounted price of $11.99 and it can be ordered now through GOG.com or directly from the Almost Human website. The game will also be available through Steam upon release day.
