I’ve gone on and on about Path of Exile in the past. The game is a wonderful Diablo style dungeon crawler. The depth of the systems and the “outside of the box” thinking to every aspect of the design makes the game something to watch. Now, the sixth class has finally been revealed. Shadow is a butcher type rogue character. As described previously, the system is so open for how you build your character that you can make Shadow whatever you want. He is obviously the intelligence/dexterity based character, but that doesn’t mean you can’t go all out on bashy bashing with giant clubs. Most likely, you will specialize this guy to strike quick and hard with traps and burst damage.

Seeing the sixth character released to the masses in the closed beta means that the title is even closer to a full release. The elephant in the room is the release of Diablo III on the 15th of May, but as interest wains from that title, PoE will be there to keep players busy for the long run. I, for one, will not complain about too much ARPG goodness coming at me.

If you haven’t had a chance to play the game, this weekend is another stress test. Go here, to the Path of Exile home page, to get the full breakdown on how to prepare for this event. I’m not prepared to say which game I prefer out of the two games mentioned here, but I will happily play Path all weekend to help keep my excitement for Diablo in check. In all honesty, this is the year for ARPG fans. Torchlight II, Diablo III and Path of Exile will all scratch specific itches for each fan of the genre throughout the year. It doesn’t come down to which is the best, it comes down to which do you play each night.
