Guys, I’ve been watching a lot of Star Trek lately- I mean, a lot. In the last 8 months or so I’ve gone through the entirety of TNG, Enterprise, DS9, and am currently making my way through Voyager. It’s not that I don’t have anything better to do- and I’m always reminding myself that I do- I just kept on getting drawn in. Why am I telling you this? Well, aside from being a general cry for help, it serves to illustrate as to why I’m interested in the new Star Trek game. Despite my reservations about how sanctimonious, patronizing and downright cheesy the franchise gets, in my heart of hearts lives a geek who loves spaceships and lasers. Today, we received some new information about the game being developed by Digital Extremes (the same group that created, Dark Sector, The Darkness II, and the multiplayer components of both Bioshock 2 and Homefront).

It’s known that the game will focus the blossoming bromance between Kirk and Spock, so the game will appropriately have the voices of the actors who played those roles in the J.J. Abrams movie: Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto. While the game doesn’t seem to include the voices of the other character featured in the movie, it appears that their likenesses will be in the game.

Lastly, we now also know that the game will feature the Gorn as the main antagonists. Enemy types will consist of Gorn Rushers, Gorn Warriors, Gorn Brutes, and wall-crawling Gorns- all of which spew hallucinogenic, lethal poison. If you’re unaware of what the Gorn look like, here is a Gornographic image to terrify (?) you:

You’ll be able to fight these disco-ball-for-eyes monsters when Star Trek is released on PS3, 360, and PC in early 2013.
