Fans of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim have been waiting patiently for the first downloadable content, and the good news is that their wait is finally coming to an end. “Dawnguard” is the first DLC pack to be released for Bethesda’s massively popular open-world RPG, and the newly-released launch trailer showcases a dark and expansive addition to the already massive world of Skyrim If you have already lost hundreds of hours to this game, prepare to lose many more this summer.

The “Dawnguard” DLC pack tells the story of the Vampire Lords who want to block out the sun and plunge the world into darkness and the human faction called the Dawnguard who are out to stop them. Both sides have their own base of operations, Castle Volkihar for the vampires and Fort Dawnguard for, well, the Dawnguard. As the player, you have the option to side with either faction and battle it out against the opposing forces. Playing as a vampire will give you the option to become one of them, opening up a new skill tree specific to this class, and new abilities such as draining the life out of your enemies.

Playing as the Dawnguard also has its perks,  as new equipment, skills and loot will no doubt be in abundance. One of the biggest additions, as prominently highlighted in the trailer, is the additon of the crossbow as a weapon. This was near the top of the the fans wishlist when speculation was running rampant about what the DLC might contain, so it is good to see it added here. Given that this is Skyrim, it is not unreasonable to expect that your journey in “Dawnguard” will end with you and your comrades storming the enemy stronghold, as the main game involved such actions.

The “Dawnguard” DLC pack for Skyrim has been given a tentative release date of June 26, 2012 on the Xbox 360, with the Playstation 3 and PC getting it a month later. This date is being widely reported but has yet to be officially confirmed. To see the full launch trailer, click on the video link below and enjoy!
