The Oddworld series has been getting a lot of attention of late, seeing its older titles being re-released on the PC and PS3 over the last couple of years, as well as some planned releases for the PS Vita scheduled for sometime this year. Now, though, we’ve learned that the first game in the series, Oddworld: Abe’s Odyssee, will be seeing not just an HD remaster, but a full-fledged HD remake. Just Add Water CEO Stewart Gilray explained the project like this:
“We are re-making Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee. However, we didn’t want the impression to be that we were just doing a port of the PSone title with higher res art. We are starting from scratch on this one, using the original as the blueprint for the game. So technically it’s not a new game, but a from-the-ground-up remake.”
The HD remake of Abe’s Odyssee will be getting its first public showing later this year, with a release currently scheduled for summer 2013. You can head over to the Oddworld Inhabitants Facebook page to check out photos from this year’s E3, showing off screenshots from the Vita versions of Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath and Munch’s Odyssee, as well as Munch HD for the PS3.
