Spelunky is a game that I’ve been playing on and off for the last four years, so it feels both odd and exciting to hear that the game is finally making its way to XBLA this summer. Originally released as a freeware game by Derek Yu in 2008, Spelunky can be best described as a rouge-like platformer where players control an Indiana Jones inspired sprite as he tears through caverns looking for that sweet, sweet gold. The game provides hours of play as it procedurally generates levels that contain various puzzles and enemies.
While you can still pick up the freeware version at the game’s website, the video below highlights why it’ll worth the 1200 MS points when it comes out this July 4th. Now being released under the studio name Mossmouth, the game will contain additional new content, add both multiplayer, co-op, and lovely new art.
