The fighting game community doesn’t cease to amaze me. It was just recently announced on Shoryuken that this years Evolution tournament series will have over $100,000 in prize money across numerous games, as well as competitors from over 40 countries. This is more that’s ever been offered at Evo, and I won’t lie and say that I’m not excited to see companies chipping into the prize winnings for their respective games. Here’s the breakdown on how much is at stake per game:

$25,000 for Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition 2012

$23,000 for Mortal Kombat 9

$15,000 for Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3

$15,000 for Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown

$11,000 for King of Fighters XIII

$9,000 for Street Fighter x Tekken

$5,000 for Soul Calibur V

Note that the money listed above is going to be divided among the top 8 ranked players for each game. Capcom’s Senior Vice President, Christian Svensson, remarked that he felt it was fitting for Street Fighter to have a $25,000 prize pot considering that this year marks the 25th anniversary of the franchise.  This years Evo tournament is going to be held from July 6th through the 8th at the Caesars Palace Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, and will be streamed live on TwitchTV. Get hype, Evo is just around the corner! I know that I’ll be spending the entire weekend in front of my computer shouting at people playing fighting games, and I intend on enjoying every moment of it.
