For fans of the series, the excitement surrounding the upcoming release of Assassin’s Creed III is palpable. The new setting of 18th century colonial America is a bold new direction, and a new storyline and protagonist are sure to give the franchise the fresh coat of paint that it needed. Those who have been following the series over the past few years know are no doubt familiar with Ubisoft’s penchant for sizable collector’s editions, and Assassin’s Creed III will be no exception. In addition to the standard retail version of the game, Ubisoft has just confirmed the details for two Limited Edition sets that will be available upon the game’s release in October.

First up, we have the Assassin’s Creed III Limited Edition set for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. This mammoth-sized special edition includes, along with a copy of the game, a 9.44″ statue of the Connor, the protagonist from the game. The statue depicts Connor in a fighting stance, with a tomahawk in one hand and his hidden blade extended in the other, with the colonial flag as a backdrop. The previous three games in the Assassin’s Creed series all came with figures and collectibles, but I have to admit that the Connor statue looks the best out of the lot. The level of detail and the “cool factor” make this a special edition worth considering.

In addition to the Connor statue, the Limited Edition also includes a 3″ by 3.25″ metalic belt buckle that bears the Assassin’s Creed logo and an embroidered colonial American flag with the Assassins’ Creed logo added into it. The entire set comes in a large box with alternate cover art, which features Connor ready to unleash violent death with his bow. Many games get released with special collector’s editions, however not many are actually worth purchasing. I was not a fan of the limited editions that came out for the prior Assassin’s Creed games, however this one has definitely piqued my interest and is compelling me to dust off some shelf space. See the image gallery below for a close-up look at what is included in this set.

The other special edition is called the Digital Deluxe Edition and is exclusive to the PC platform. Available as a digital download at the time of release, this edition will include a host of extras in addition to the main game. The main attraction will be three additional single-player missions, which provide an interesting sub-plot where you go to Cozumel Island in search of Captain Kidd’s treasure. You are also given two exclusive characters, the Sharpshooter and Redcoat, to use in multiplayer. The Digital Deluxe Edition also includes exclusive uniforms and weapons, George Washington’s notebook that fleshes out the back story and a digital soundtrack featuring choice songs from past Assassin’s Creed titles.

The Assassin’s Creed III Limited Edition is scheduled for release on October 30, 2012 for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. The MSRP is $119.99 and it is available for pre-order now through Gamestop, Wal-Mart, Target, Best Buy and Amazon.com. The Digital Deluxe Edition is scheduled for release on the same day for the PC, and is available for pre-order through the UBIshop and other online retailers at the MSRP of $64.99. At the time of this writing, both sets are exclusive to North America and Latin America.
