After a few months hiatus, I’ve recently gotten back into Minecraft on PC with the Tekkti mod. It’s a fantastic addition that has made me lose hours of sleep and expands the game’s mining, smelting, and digging systems. Why do I bring this up? Well, the new 1.3 update for Minecraft has been announced and moves a step closer to make modding the game more accessible. While the vanilla version is great, exciting mods definitely change the game enough that they give it much of the same feeling that I got when playing Minecraft for the first time.
Here’s a breakdown of some of the more noticeable changes in the update, both good and bad:
- Smoother multiplayer
- Sharing of single-player worlds on LAN
- Villagers will act as shops with the new Emerald item as currency
- Books can be written in
- Tripwire allows for new traps to be created
- Single-player requires more CPU
- Adventure mode added
The update is currently only planned for PC and will be officially released on August 1, 2012.
