A while back, rumors circulated around the internet about an upcoming portable console with the ability to play classic Neo Geo arcade games on the go. Shortly after, it was confirmed as being real, and there was much rejoicing. Today, we finally have some concrete news regarding the Neo Geo handheld and its release date, now known officially as the NeoGeo X Gold.

For $200, you can take home everything seen in the picture above: the handheld itself, a charging dock that allows you to connect the handheld to a television or monitor via standard A/V cables or through an HDMI connection, and a joystick controller that mimics the hardware that came with the Neo Geo AES home console. The handheld itself features 20 games built in, but also features a card slot in order to play more. The titles included are pretty nice, too.

Looking through the list (below), there are some of my favorite Neo Geo games built in, including Metal Slug, Magician Lord, King of the Monsters, Last Resort, Real Bout Fatal Fury Special, and more! Anyone who was worried about having the built in games be a bunch of undesirable titles can rest easy, you’re definitely getting your money’s worth out of this package. The total list of the built in games are as follows: 3 Count Bout, Art of Fighting II, Alpha Mission II, Baseball Stars II, Cyber Lip, Fatal Fury, Fatal Fury Special, The King of Fighters ’95, King of the Monsters, Last Resort, League Bowling, Magician Lord, Metal Slug, Mutation Nation, Nam 1975, Puzzled, Real Bout Fatal Fury Special, Samurai Shodown II, Super Sidekicks, and World Heroes Perfect.

The NeoGeo X Gold will be released on December 6th of this year. Nothing was mentioned as far as if the handheld is going to see a release in stores or strictly online, although I don’t expect it to have a very long run. If you want one, I’d suggest picking one up as soon as it comes out this December.
