If you have still been making your way through the The Sly Collection, I have some good and bad news, Sly fans. The good news? You have a few extra months to polish off the collection’s trio of platinum trophies. Unfortunately, that is because the long-awaited fourth entry in the series, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, has been delayed to 2013.
Originally set for release this October, the thieving raccoon and his merry band of fellow criminals will not be jumping through time until February of next year. Sony released a statement citing the promising lineup for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita for the rest of the year as well as the desire to continue delivering quality titles in the beginning of 2013 as the reasons for the move. The delay also allows Sony to tout its Cross Buy program into next year, providing those who pick up a PS3 version of Thieves in Time to receive a Vita version at no additional cost. This promotion delivers a great value to owners of both systems, and Vita fans will have to settle for PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale and Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault to quench their first party thirst in 2012.
If the delay allows for the title to undergo a few extra months of polish, though, then fans should consider this in the title’s best interest. The game looked promising when we previewed it back at E3, but with a simultaneous release on PS3 and Vita, the title may have a kinks that need to be worked out. Alternatively, Sony may just want to spread out its releases heading into 2013, which will certainly be a telling year for how this console generation transitions into the next.
So don’t fear, fellow Sly fans, the masked vigilante will be slinking his way onto Sony platforms in a few months, but until then feel free to take in the Gamescom trailer below and make as many time-related puns as you would like in the comments.
