While talk of a Metal Gear Solid movie has circulated before, we now have an official announcement courtesy of Konami Digital Entertainment. The film will be produced by Avi and Ari Arad, with Avi being the founder of Marvel Studios and the producer of such blockbusters franchises as Spider-Man, X-Men, and Iron Man. The man has plenty of experience with comic-to-film adaptations, let’s hope he has similar success converting videogames to the big screen. The film will be developed by Arad Productions and Columbia Pictures, with production and distribution handled by Sony Pictures Entertainment.
Obviously this announcement is fresh from the presses, so there’s zero talk of any creative involvement. Let the hopes and the dreams and the speculation begin! Who do you guys want to see play Snake? Who do you want to see in the director’s chair? When rumors of a Metal Gear Solid film starting circling before, there was talk of Christian Bale in the lead role and I honestly can’t think of a better fit – the man’s got both the looks and the talent to pull it off.
On a related note, while I was writing this story the Sons of Liberty theme came up on Spotify and it may have been the pinnacle of my existence. Let us know who you want to see in a Metal Gear Solid movie in the comments below.
