Revolution Games, known for their Broken Sword series of classic adventure games, has raised a total of $820,000 via Kickstarter and PayPal, to fund the development of the next installment of the franchise: Broken Sword: The Serpent’s Curse. That’s an awful lot of cash… though not enough to reach the final stretch goal of $1,000,000, which would result in Revolution greenlighting the development of Beneath A Steel Sky 2. How did the developers react? They’ll make it anyway.
Of course, the studio has stated that for the time being they are fully occupied with developing Broken Sword: The Serpent’s Curse, with Beneath A Steel Sky 2 being planned for after the game’s release. Fans of the original game will be pleased to note that Dave Gibbons, chief artist of the original, is currently working with Revolution Games on an as of yet unreleased, original title, and has confirmed that he will be directly involved with Beneath A Steel Sky 2‘s development when it starts. Yes, this is the same Dave Gibbons that illustrated the seminal Watchmen.
If you haven’t yet played Beneath A Steel Sky, but would like to correct that mistake, the game has been released as freeware by Revolution Games and is available for download from Good Old Games. It is best to run it through the open source SCUMMVM (Script Creation Utility for Manic Mansion Virtual Machine).
