When people say Minecraft, several things come to mind. A colorful world made out of blocks, the iconic creepers and the nearly unrestrained ability to build whatever you like. It first came into being as a PC exclusive, then it broke sales records when it was ported over to the Xbox 360 in early 2012. It’s a game so simplistic and yet so addictive, it has won over millions of fans and even sparked it’s own annual convention, “MineCon.” One of the perks of playing it on the PC is having access to the modifications, some of which rival the original game in terms of style and content. Jumping on board with this is Ubisoft, who have just announced a map and texture pack based on, of all games, Far Cry 3. Let the insanity begin!
This new pack will mesh the two games together, making it a world that plays out key elements of Far Cry 3 but it incorporates the signature Minecraft style. The visual style, based on the screenshots below, will be a mixture of realistic scenery and Minecraft blocky textures combined. The settings will include the tropical beaches, jungles and other locales featured in the upcoming game, plus you will have a new arsenal of tools and weapons at your disposal. Key characters from Far Cry 3 will also be present, as will 50 hidden Easter Eggs that can be uncovered throughout the island. For any Minecraft fan, this is definitely one modification that you’ll want to delve into. Credit for this modification goes to prolific mod creator Michael Lambert, along with artists Axel Janssen and Yohann Delcourt.
This brand new map and texture pack will be released on October 26, 2012 for the PC, and it will be available free of charge on the official Far Cry website. Far Cry 3 will be released on November 29, 2012 in Europe, December 3 in North America, for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC platforms.
