While Telltale Games‘ The Walking Dead: The Game has certainly captured and broken the hearts of many gamers, Activision will continue to bring the world of the walkers to players with The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct. Tied into the world of the hit TV show, players will control fan favorite Daryl Dixon as he and his brother Merle travel to the presumed safety of Atlanta. But before the game launches, developer Terminal Reality is giving fans a chance to be featured in the game.
For the next eight weeks, watching The Walking Dead every Sunday on AMC will net viewers an opportunity to be a character in the upcoming shooter. During each episode of the show until its mid-season finale on December 2, clues will appear during the airing, which can be entered at www.amcdead.com. A winner will be chosen for every episode, and Terminal Reality will use pictures of the eight victors to create in-game likenesses, each with their own history and – most importantly – gruesome death scene.
Players will have to hunt down these deceased fans, one hidden per level, and a special challenge in game will task players with completing this objective (and, I can only hope as a PlayStation 3 trophy hunter, result in a trophy or achievement).
The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct (the subtitle is a new addition as well, by the way) is set for release in 2013 for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and if you’re a fan of the show this should be an enticing opportunity for fans. Though a far cry from what Telltale has crafted in its episodic series, with the TV show’s massive popularity as one of cable’s biggest programs ever, there is surely a market for those hoping to jump into the role of the crossbow-wielding Daryl.
