Last week, we reported the unfortunate news that the new trailer for Grand Theft Auto V would be delayed due to Hurricane Sandy. While things were looking slightly gloomy, the sun is shining bright for GTA fans once more. As Rockstar Games gears up for the spring 2013 launch of GTA V, they have officially announced that pre-orders for the game are now being accepted. Given the length of time since the last GTA instalment, and the slow trickle of details that have kept the fans salivating, it’s not unreasonable to anticipate that this will be one of the biggest gaming events of 2013. So should you reserve your copy now? You might want to hold back just a bit.
The appeal behind pre-ordering a game is the incentives that the retails give you for doing so. These bonuses could include posters and keychains, deluxe packaging and ultra-rare goodies that are sure to become collector’s items. Unfortunately, Rockstar has not revealed the full details on what bonuses would be offered to those who reserve the game. The one confirmed item is a picture viewer, a little collectible that contains a still picture from Los Santos, the setting for GTA V. Outside of that, nothing concrete has been confirmed, especially for retailer-specific incentives. In the past, US retailers like Best Buy, Amazon and Target have offered unique items for game pre-orders, so it remains to be seen if the same will happen for GTA V.
If you just can’t wait and want to reserve your copy now, retailers in the USA, Canada and the UK are now accepting pre-orders. Since details regarding the pre-order bonuses have yet to be revealed, we recommend checking to see if there is a rain check policy. Many retails will not provide that, but it couldn’t hurt to ask. GTA V currently is scheduled for release sometime in the spring of 2013, for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
Oh, and that trailer that was delayed? Look for it on Wednesday November 14, 2012.
