The first Borderlands was a surprise hit for Gearbox Software, emerging as a new IP in 2009 and becoming both a highly acclaimed and highly profitable title. The 2012 release of Borderlands 2 made many improvements on the addictive “shoot and loot” mechanic, and many gamers have since burned through multiple playthroughs. One of the other appeals of the first Borderlands was the subsequent DLC releases, of which there were four and all of them added significantly to the game. Continuing their tradition with Borderlands 2, Gearbox is rolling out the downloadable content at a rapid-fire pace. A new class, the Mechromancer, was first, followed soon afterwards by “Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate’s Booty” and “Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage.” So far, fans of the game have been well serviced with a deluge of post-launch content.
Wasting no time, we now have confirmation of the third DLC pack, and it contains arguably one of the most entertaining characters in the game. Sir Hammerlock, the fine British gentleman with a few bionic limbs, was one of your first encounters in Borderlands 2, and he’s now back in his own DLC pack, titled “Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt”. It will add additional missions, locations, loot and , of course, guns to the game. The exact storyline and mission details are not known at this time, however there will be three DLC-specific achievements and trophies that can be obtained. The difficulty level is also not known, but it will presumably be catered more towards higher-level players. Accordingly, taking along a few friends is recommended. Survival aside, cooperative gameplay usually means that better loot will drop.
Gearbox has not confirmed the release date for “Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt”, however it is expected to launch in the near future. It has also not been confirmed if it will be limited to certain platforms, or if it will be available across the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC. Those who have purchased the Season Pass will receive this DLC for free.
