Does anyone remember Toki Tori, the puzzle game originally released on the Gameboy Color back in 2001? It’s had several re-releases since then, but developer Two Tribes didn’t get around to making the sequel recently. Originally announced about a year-and-a-half ago, Toki Tori 2 is finally complete, and will be headed to the Wii U in just a couple of weeks time: you’ll be able to pick it up on April 4th.
Toki Tori 2 is an open-world puzzle game in which the titular chick Toki Tori must again navigate dangerous environments in an attempt to save his family (from the looks of it, anyway), though it is worth noting that they are hatched this time around. I should point out that the release date of April 4th is for the Wii U version of the game only. The PC version of the game will be available later.
Given that Toki Tori 2 is on the Wii U, you might be expecting some kind of Gamepad gimmick, and you aren’t wrong. Toki Tori 2 features a Tokidex, which, from the sounds of it, just means that you can aim your Gamepad at your TV, and take pictures of creatures in the world, which will then be added to some sort of informational database. It seems completely tangential to the main experience, and the gameplay itself will still be done using traditional stick-and-button controls, so I suppose we can let this one slide.
Anyway, here’s the launch trailer for Toki Tori 2. You can pick it up for your Wii U in a couple of weeks, if you’re interested.
