There are many, many uses for video game consoles. Apps like Netflix prove that video streaming on a console can be just as much fun as actually gaming on a console is, and the adult video streaming company SugarDVD has decided to take advantage of that by launching a new app for the Wii U.

Utilizing the console’s browser, SugarDVD has made it possible for Wii U owners to access the streaming features of their site quickly and easily by creating a specialized Wii U login area. Once in, you can choose to stream the movies to your television, or directly to the Wii U gamepad, if you’re not near your TV.

I’d like to break this down for you, if I may.

SugarDVD is a site dedicated to streaming adult video. There is a $7.95 monthly subscription fee. Once you have an active account, you can login to access the streaming features. What the company is doing here is similar to websites that have a dedicated version for mobile phones: they’re creating an interface that works well with the Wii U. It’s not an app, strictly speaking, but more a compatibility addition for the browser the Wii U is sporting. The only way they could have created a dedicated app for the device would be with the approval of Nintendo, something they undoubtedly would not be able to obtain.

This isn’t the first time SugarDVD has branched out to gaming consoles and the like. They’ve created specialized versions of their service for mobile devices, with versions for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 back in 2011. They claim that user feedback has been so strong that the company has  made offering their app on gaming consoles a “top priority.”

I have to say, I find the idea of an adult video streaming company creating a specialized version of their website specifically for a Nintendo console to be deliciously ironic in some way I can’t quite pinpoint. Maybe this is why all the bigwigs over there hate the internet.
