I’m a big superhero video game fanatic and with Batman: Arkham Origins announced I couldn’t help myself from trying to see what the world map would look like when transformed into a three-dimensional model. Now, the vertical attributes aren’t exact because I am using a flat world map for placement reference and that doesn’t provide any height benchmarks.

Because of the limited map data, I had to take some liberties when determining the verticality of buildings. What we do seem to know is that there is a large bridge separating the old section of Gotham from the new section and the old section has some sort of massive ship looking structure. I’m also guessing that there’s more to the new section of Gotham than we can see on the map alone because the southern most tip of it seems very vacant on the map. This is 3D model is based on the world map that appears in the May issue of Game Informer.

Okay, enough talk, have a fly through by watching the video below.

Old Gotham consists of the following areas called out on the high level world map:

  • The Bowery
  • Park Row
  • Amusement Mile
  • Sheldon Park
  • Industrial District
  • The Final Offer (massive ported ship)
  • The Jezebel Plaza

The new portion of Gotham is made up of three sections according to the same map:

  • Coventry
  • Burnley
  • Diamond District.

Will this Arkham release include vehicles? The inclusion of a bridge may point to that, however it is also possible that the bridge is nothing more than a loading/porting mechanism used to shift you from old to new Gotham. It’s still too early to tell.

To see the actual in-game map itself as well as an in-depth look at Batman: Arkham Origins, make sure to pick up the May issue of Game Informer.
