While talking with the Wall Street Journal, Andrew House of Sony has confirmed that the company has raised the internal sales projections of the PlayStation 4, following what he dubbed “favourable reception” after Monday’s keynote presentation. He didn’t detail just how many units Sony expects to move, but did suggest that “demand may well outstrip supply.”
This is a move that could suggest either hubris or confidence, but after seeing the Sony conference, I don’t blame them for raising their projections. My only hope is that their new estimates are realistic: the current state of things does indeed tip the scales in their favour, but the gaming market constantly proves that a company can always make a comeback. Just because the ball seems to be in Sony’s court right now, doesn’t mean it will still be there a week from now, a month from now, or when the consoles finally launch.
