In the hypegasm fest that is E3 and the weird pseudo-political battles going on between Sony and Microsoft, it’s easy to forget why we care about all this stuff: games bring us joy. I was reminded of this fact when playing Merritt Kopa‘s latest game Hugpunx. As you can tell from the title, it’s a game about hugging. The experience is rather short, so I won’t go into detail about what the game is and mostly point you to Merritt’s site where the game is posted at.
While short and simple, the game is also a masterclass in game design. Its ambitions are clear and the mechanics and aesthetics work perfectly in union to completely fulfill those ambitions. So go play it and be happy about many things.
